Solid gold or gold filled chain for tin cup

I've looked high and low for gold filled orbit-like clasps. without success. Rio Grande and Fire Mountain Gems have gold plated ones. (I don't buy gold plated; the color wears off too fast.)

How do you find vermeil wears on you, GemGeek? I think it might not be as durable as gold filled but have not tested it; I only have a few vermeil Bali-type spacers.

Vermeil wears better than ordinary plate, but beware of the seller. I had some that was supposed to be vermeil, but was flash plated. I went back to the clear package a gold plated pendant was in and most of the gold had vaporized. Honestly.

... But this store is, in principle, for professionnal buyers, and I don't know if export is possible.
Just a question is never expensive.

You've got that right! Ive found plated ones but I think it would scratch on a clasp..

I agree that you must know your source for gold!
Another suggestion I have is look in your own jewelry box...do you have an old gold chain that you no longer wear? Maybe because it's too short? or too long? I would say that a solid portion of my custom work is done restyling chains into tin cups, and other designs.

Excellant point, JP. I did this with my own chains inherited from my mother and sister. It's also a nice way to feel connected to loved ones.

Seriously, me too! But since the price of gold is so high right now, I really hope everyone is looking through their old jewelry to see what can be restyled! It's a wonderful way to make use of old chains.

To make clasps is not a simple work ! I should be interested to know if it's more interesting to make do that this our own gold, compared with industrial jewellery supplies.
