Restringing Mother-In-Laws, Best clasps for elderly...

I am trying to decide what to do with so many pearl necklaces. I have been communicating with Pattye and trying to build up enough confidence to attack one of the broken strands. Otherwise I might request some help.

With bead cups... the top one would be pretty easy. (At one time...most people could restring beads, they sold restringing kits in department stores even.) On a double thread, you would make a knot & put it thru the bead cup hole... then pull one pearl at a time off the strand & put it on the new string. Since there are only a few knots, you just tie the knots in the same place on the new string. (after the first 3 pearls & under the safety chain ring) and keep transfering. I do this all in a little box so things don't roll or you can get a bead board (I have 2 from amazon.) so they even stay in a little groove. Always remember that you can redo it, if you don't like it...but you are not reinventing anything, you are just following a pattern or recipe. You really can't mess up and ruin anything. (I actually taught myself originally..my grandmother mentioned the kits & I just gave it a try.) I will try to pop a photo with bead cups in... later.

Did my images show up?
Yes, thank you! Some very interesting strands and that beautiful clasp, wow! I was able to look over your strand photos last night and again today. I can see why you feel the 2 older strands could be natural. It's interesting to me that they appear to be so white.
Just a little practice and stringing can be fun! I hope you'll give it a try. Lots of mentors here to cheer you on!
@jshepherd any ideas here about these older, possibly natural necklaces?

They are done! The knots on the akoyas are slightly lose because MIL is very worried that I might make them too tight (Her last restring was too tight) & they won't hang right. I think I matched in the 3" of pearls very well...I can hardly tell...she won't be able too! I did the Japan style on the Freshwater since MIL wanted it to look original.

Thank you Pattye!!! I owe most of that to you and this forum!!! Your String....(and gimp)....So easy to work with, looks great & it is going to be hard for her to break it! (She broke the dark ones!). Knowing about pearl reamers...the end holes were way too small to knot...made them the right size. Findings...from this forum & knew where to get good quality that made MIL happy. From this forum...I had ideas of what to look for in matching those pearls..I could tell they were Akoyas...so didn't bother trying any freshwater!
