Would you wonderful people tell me if you think this strand is south sea, or freshwater pearls, please? One is with a flash & one is without. Thank you so much! F5990865-D185-49EA-B05C-001A9F442A1B.jpgC4C153AA-22F0-4B08-9047-02C2C5B75601.jpg

The size and shape read fresh water to me. Pretty pearls :)

They look like freshwater to me also. I hope the seller didn't tell you they were South Sea.

They are actually 12-14mm. And the stand is 38”. I purchased them from from eBay (I know!) The seller was from Hong Kong. And yes, he/she claimed they were “south sea” pearls. Although I suspected through the entire process these would be freshwater pearls, I decided to make the purchase. The price was very good for freshwater. $1200. The seller also had good feedback.

I know there are many sellers on eBay who claim “south sea” pearls, and really sell something else. Shell pearls, etc.

But I am wondering if there may be something that gets lost in translation with “south sea” and freshwater” or Edison pearls? I feel that this seller was being honest. I messaged them and told them these were not “south sea” but freshwater. They did not immediately offer a discount, or money back & keep the pearls. They instead offered to send me free postage to return the pearls for an immediate refund.

Anyhow since I was expecting freshwater in the beginning, with a very slight hope they might be south sea, haha! I am pleased. They are very nice quality freshwater pearls for a good price.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Is the seller a.u.pearl by any chance? He has various multicolored (typical FW colors) pearls listed as south sea.

A useful trick, when in doubt, is to check a seller's other listings for inaccuracies.

38 inches? Wow, it doesn't look that long to me, but I was also thinking the pearls were much, much smaller than they actually are, so I had the scale wrong.

I’m sorry. I miss-typed. 35”. I’ll post a picture with my measuring tape and a quarter so you can see.

Like I said, I was fairly sure going in I was getting freshwater pearls. And for the price, size and length of this strand, I am happy with them. I know they are not as advertised. But I still got what I expected.

That last one looks like shell pearl to me as well....plus he says they are South Sea from Australia lol In fact it seems like everything is South Sea ... :( Some of those prices are ridiculous.

But as you said..you were expecting Freshwater..I just feel sorry for everyone who bought the fake pearls.
