Thank you Douglas, I looked it up - “of sorts”, yes. Thank you for even distantly associating me with such wit.

and speaking of wit, thank you Wendy for the links and the laughs!

Pervigilium Veneris (an excerpt from The Vigil of Venus Thomas Parnell’s translation)
...
Yes safely venture, ‘tis his Mother’s Will;
He walks unarmed and undesigning ill,
His Torch extinct, his Quiver useless hung,
His Arrows idle, and his bow unstrung.

And yet, ye Nymphs, beware, his Eyes have charms,
And love that’s naked, still is love in Arms.

Let those love now, who never loved before,
Let those who always loved, love now the more.

Wow.

Never underestimate a Classical education. I don’t have one, so I’d never read this before. It’s wonderful. His eyes have charms...

My favorite part is the couplet... beware, his Eyes have charms...still is love in Arms.
that seems more powerful than the last couplet which I think is more famous.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the amount of donor tissue, these are fascinating facts.
