Blemish identification

Does anyone know what these splotches are due to?

That first photo...could be naturally occurring blemishes.
But the 2nd photo looks like there is something lying atop the pearl. A bit of tissue maybe? Moisten it and see if it wipes off.

There's nothing on it. It doesn't feel different than the rest of the surface. But I feel like some of the nacre came off there. Is that a reasonable hypothesis?

If it doesn't feel different than the rest of the surface, nacre did not come off there. Tahitian pearl nacre is thick.

I've never seen anything like that.
If these are pearls you just bought, consider returning them.
