Posting for a acquaintance -

Her mam went to japan in 60's and purchased these - no clasp - perhaps for future fitting?
I understand the Clasp is king id wise (except for fakes)

Question - does these attached tags/stamp/box help verify it's Mikimoto?

Any info I can pass on will be welcome!

Gosh never seen one with a label right out before the clasp. Miki really won't auth wo clasp but this one appears to have the original miki tags attached & you might get that one by them or else it was a fake way back but not likely at that time with the box.

These days a box or a clasp is not even 100% id as they can be switched & faked.

Interesting!

Thank you for the comeback! Looking for Mikimoto america email address, but no luck - can anyone provide to further my research?

Camelotshadow -

You might find this interesting - another w/ 2 stamps - It's a completed eBay auction

The link did not work...It looks genuine to me but I have never seen one before. Not too many strands around that never were issued clasps.

Let us know how it goes with Miki...I say fight to get a mikimoto clasp on them. Still it would be a modern 18K clasp & they could have been meant for a silver clasp & the old style clasps looked different so the strand would not be period correct.
Doubt they can trace the record number back to the 60's though but who knows????

Good Luck...

Found it unsold....$999/ $600 is asking too much without clasp for that size with no grade still they look better than your strand but photos of pearls never really do pearls justice. Most times they look worse & a few times they look better...

The string is sealed in wax...very nice though of mikimoto to do that...wax seal bears JCE?

Yes, I think it is a Miki strand. My grandmother purchased a few strands only when she went to the Ginza Mikimoto store back in the early 70s. FWIW, the lady at Mikimoto, whom I spoke with, said that to buy a clasp it was around $2000. To exchange one 18k white gold to a yellow 18k clasp was almost $300. Of course, you don't get the old clasp back.

$2000!!!! Thats robbery!!! even for 18K...metal value maybe $60

To exchange $300 is not bad. They are getting your old one but you are getting a new one & a new clasp means restringing...

Heard back from Mikimoto - basic form letter - can send to them for a 200.00 examination fee, but nothing on authenticating the tag/seal

Thank you all for your help and interest!

That is the certificate fee so guess they would examine in for authenticity. I don't think they would even examine if if there was no chance of issuing a certificate.

I guess I'd want more clarification///
