Hello everyone,

I was in the Philippines for a whole month and did some shopping. I bought these from a lady who was saying "Baby South Seas." I have never heard of that and was thinking more Chinese freshwater pearls. I am heading back next week to the Philippines and probably stopping by Jewelmer. I am still getting educated on Pearls. I have been buying pearls for a couple of years for just the beauty and the joy.

The lady said that these are South Sea pearls that haven't matured and taken out early hence the size. The luster is decent, and the feel is lovely on this strand. However, I am not sure what baby south sea means. Any help would be appreciated.

They look like freshwater pearls to me....their shapes, size, overtones, luster. I think it was just a marketing ploy.

I agree. These look like freshwater pearls to me, not South Sea.

Thank you! That is what I thought but had fun still shopping at Greenhills. I will take some pictures and post them around mid-October of next trip to Greenhills. The funny part Martha Stewart was there at the same time, I was in the Philippines this August.

My husband and I last year was at the Shangri-La The Fort for two weeks and Jewelmer was right there but I didn't take any pictures. This time I will.

ooh! have fun shopping at Greenhills! I also wanted to go there but was too afraid so I just bought a GSS stud at Kultura.

Jewelmer was just too expensive for me.

Welcome, MJJshop,

Your freshwater pearls are lovely and yes, they have a very good luster. I'm glad you weren't really fooled and hope you didn't pay a South Sea price for them. Building a pearl collection gives lots of pleasure.

I think it would be great fun to shop at Greenhills!

Going to Greenhills is safe. I have been going there for over 12 years on and off from my work in the Middle East. My recommendation is to go with cash and nothing valuable and haggle. The only hard part is if you leave around 7-9 pm for taxis. I used Grab (Uber). I will have to drop a post full of pictures. I also just got back from Dubai Gold Souk... tons of pearls.

Hi Pattye,

I paid less than a hundred, and it was just for pure fun. Seeing everything and experiencing what they have was the sole point for me. I buy what feels nice.

mjjshop,

You have developed an excellent "eye" for pearls; clearly you are a savvy shopper, too! Your tips for shopping at Greenhills are so helpful and interesting to many. Often the forum receives questions about shopping there.

I also just got back from Dubai Gold Souk... tons of pearls.
Sounds amazing!! Oh, please tell us and show us more! :D
