Giant clam pearl discovered in my sushi!

O.K., the reality of it isn't quite so dramatic, but was still kind of interesting to bite into something hard when I took a bite of mirugai (long neck clam). Didn't know those critters made pearls. Whopping dimensions, about 2mm by 3mm. Had a nice baby giant clam shell to use as a photo prop.

What, a real pearl...? I`m lost for words! It must be completely different when you find the pearl yourself rather than buying it, even if you buy a natural one...

Is that a non-nacreous pearl? And did they cook it? So, if it's non-nacreous does that mean it didn't hurt the pearl any? Or is that kind of sushi raw?

It was mirugai sashimi, uncooked, and yes, the pearl is non-nacreous.

very strange and lucky! I have a very good friend who is a Gooey duck(long neck clam) diver off the coast of Vancouver Island. Hes a second generation diver and I have asked both him and his father if they have ever found one. They both swear up and down that they doin't create any pearls nacreous or not.
