Thank you, Blaire. We had a great time in Bali. Thanks for publishing my trip report.

The cooking class had me drooling. The trip was incredibly well-rounded. :)

You are all so welcome, JerseyPearl, lary007, GemGeek, Katbran, Pareltje, and Cicadalady.

Katbran - I'm sure your son and his partner will have a wonderful time in Bali. We had travel guides, but really, each experience will be unique and wonderful. Bali is so different, that I found delights at every turn. For example, the last day I told our driver we wanted lunch on the beach at Kuta, and he took us to a delightful live seafood restaurant. I selected a grouper right from the tank, and it was cooked and served to us on the beach, waves rolling in and we could see planes landing at the airport in the distance. Then a little band came over and played John Denver's "Country Roads" to us. When they finished I remarked that it wasn't a country road that would take us home, it was an airplane. They promptly began playing "Leaving on a Jet Plane, Don't know when I'll be back again..." as I cracked up.

You simply can't plan these things.

Blaire - Just for you. More cooking class photos. This took the entire morning and was so incredibly fun.

We were up early for a 6 am trip to a local market. Markets in Bali are open from 5 am to noon, seven days a week. Cooking is done once a day, in the morning, and the family eats during the day whenever they get hungry.

This lady, outside the market, has a little business doing food deliveries on her scooter.

Check out those green beans!

I love all the varieties of bananas. We only get one kind in the US.

Food is so much better with fresh ingredients.

Cooking class back at the Matahari at their open air beach kitchen. First class facilities and a first class chef.

The apprentice chefs are ready for class to begin.

We began by making four basic sauces. The Marahari chef did all of the knife work. Here are the chopped ingredients for the four sauces.

The sauces made, we turned our attention to other dishes.

Continuing. The spring rolls ready for frying. We also made fried rice, and cooked fish in banana leaves.

Finally, the apprentice cooks needed a break. We ate our food on the beach.

We did end the day by graduating and getting our own aprons and cookbooks. We also made enough food that we came back and had dinner cooked up from the food we made that morning.

Thank you for featuring Red's trip, Blaire!

Red, LOVE the extra cooking class photos!!! I think you should bring the really tall bearded chef along to Ruckus ;)

Cathy - You are welcome on the extra photos. The tall bearded one has said no to the ruckus. To his defense, he travels a lot for work, and is already on the road quite a bit in July. Maybe next year....

Okay, we'll give the chef a pass ... but he does look like someone Walter would happily hang out with in the future :)

I agree on the cooking class photos! Too bad your husband won't join you.
