The thrift shop by my house and shopgoodwill. Don’t do it unless you’re ok identifying pearls off a few bad pictures and comfortable with how much you spent and you’re wrong & got a faux strand. Prices on that site will come back down after New Years. I have scored some pretty incredible stuff on there for cheap, it’s shocking what turns up at goodwill.
 
Today is akoya day, some 9.5mm akoyas set in rose gold with garnets and a vintage graduated necklace

Oh, I love those vintage graduated Akoya necklaces, Mary-Contrary. One of these days I’m going to add one to my collection. By the way, I’ll be in Tucson as well. Maybe I can meet you IRL!

Blue Tahitian studs and necklace from Alex Collins. It’s a special necklace that took Alex three years of harvests to put together. Worn with two J. Hunter Fiji pieces- a bracelet and keshi pendant I bought on a trip to Fiji.

That’s a great strand, BWeaves!

A white SS strand from the Kimberly region of Australia. Special pearls that were grown in wild-caught oysters. POJ had a handful of these several years ago. Worn with a little seed pearl pendant from House of Keshi. I bought the pendant and a pair of smaller seed pearl “balls” when I visited the House of Keshi in Japan. I haven’t decided if the pair will be made into studs or dangles yet. Most likely studs. Worn with SS drops I put together.

All things I made- A necklace of spinel and Tahitian and Tahitian keshi, an adjustable tin cup I made with white SS keshi from Druzy, and earrings made with Akoya and Tahitian keshi.

Baggins Akoya wave strand from NaHoku Hawaii, a tin cup I wire-wrapped with silvery blue J. Hunter Fiji keshi from PP, and SS keshi studs from a PP/Takahashi live event with Akoya jackets I made with loose pearls from Takahashi.

JEG: I remember that Fiji bracelet strand, and thought it would make an amazing tin-cup necklace. You proved it right. And I love that wave rope, too.

It's 2 days before Xmas and my windows are open, and a gentle breeze is wafting through the house. These are the only ice cubes I could find to make the temperature feel cooler. Dyed freshwater pearls and aquamarine bead necklaces from Kojima Pearl. Mismatched, baroque Tahitian earrings from Kamoka Pearl farm.

And, in case anyone is interested, this Takahashi ring came back up for sale from the PP Live even, so I ordered it so I could see it in person. The blue baroque akoya pearl is amazing, but the ring design is too dainty for my big knuckles. The size 6 does fit on my pinky, but I'd need it sized up to a size 9, and I don't think it would look as nice. If anyone is interested, it's going back to PP today. The photo does not do it justice. My wall is a sea salt green color, not white. The pearl is very iridescent and blue, and the little diamonds are very sparkly.

@jeg How do you arrange the pearls? I feel lost with this kind of thing, but have some I need to string. Do you have a system that you start with? Are there any pearl arranging principles that you can share? I am assuming it takes a couple of tries until you like it but, any starting tips would be greatly appreciated!​

Hmmm, I’m not sure I have a system as I tend to rely on what appeals to my eyes, but maybe there are a few things I think about. I use a bead board and start with what I want to use for the center pearl. Then I choose some of the pearls that I want to draw the eye to and place them along the sides around where they would hit by the collar bone or just below if it’s a short strand. If it’s going to be an opera or rope length, then I place them lower than that, but still higher than halfway down the rope. Then I start filling in from there, thinking about contrasting colors next to each other and random sizes. I really like randomness, so I typically don’t create any sort of pattern with the sizes. Or maybe it’s because I don’t have exact numbers of pearls in each size to create a pattern. I like the mix of colors, sizes and shapes because I think it draws the eyes all around. I hope this helps. I’ll have to think about what I do the next time I’m putting together a strand. :unsure:
