First Attempt at Knotting

Pearlcat,

if you buy silk I recommend spools, they are quite affordable. Gudebrod, size E (for pearls up to 8 mm), or F but in general I would recommend Power Pro. Read up on it on "The Lowly Beaders Club". And always work with doubled thread or line if using Power Pro.

I did mention to John Tu about him being on the Pearl Guide and yes, I think he did get a kick out of it. He was the first one I went to go to visit at the Gem Faire and the only one I bought anything from. I found that he pearls were of good quality at a fair price. Some of the other vendors were charging ridiculous prices for junk.

I will definitely be taking all of your advice to heart and check into spools and Power Pro. I just made two pink pearl necklaces and bracelets for my nieces. I'll post pictures. I will also be taking a basic beading course later in month to become more adept at clasps and to make other stuff like earrings.

I made two sets of pink pearl necklaces/bracelets for my two nieces. Here is one set. Because my nieces are only 11 and 7 years old the sets are too small for me to do a neck shot! These pearls are also from John Tu. They measure about 7mm by 5.5-6mm wide. By the way, I restrung the large peach pearls on a thinner thread to get smaller knots. Looks better I think. I would like to get better at the finishing part on the ends of the strands to make them look more "finished."

Now that I know how to knot pearls I find that I want to do this all the time!:D
