I just realized I never put up a picture of my purple bracelet. I took all the darkest pearls from every where and this was the result. I am going to restring it with a locking ball and socket clasp. LINK

Thank you, but I don't think you will because I couldn't make enough of any one design and my designs are very simple and hardly cutting edge. I didn't add to this thread for a LONG time, because I am so in awe of the REAL designers here!

The stone beads against the pearls will cause undo wear against the pearl.
Knot....is one solution....hard decision because they look so good especially

Me, too, Caitlin. I love your creations and how find companions for pearls to make such unique creations.

I have always wanted to have a necklace of turquoise and pearls where the turquoise does not take over . . . such as turquoise "beads" that are, of course beautiful, but next to pearls, look like huge, irregular clumps. Do you have ideas for something like that? I tried to look for examples but found nothing close to my mind's eye vision of it. These are sort of in the ballpark area.

I like this particular style with maybe only two or three strands.

Turquoise and pearls are so ancient and still one of the best combos today.

The button pearls used like heishi dancing around with the actual turquoise heishi.

Your designs have such nice rhythms, both in color and in bead sizes and spacing.

How inspiring. It makes me want to play around with turquoise and pearls.

I like the direction of your thoughts. Nothing compares to designing your own pieces and I think you have the eye for it.

Design something on paper- graph paper if you are nervous and take it to the biggest bead store you can get to. In the Central Coast area there are many beaders, so there will be something. They have enough pearls and turquoise selection to get you started. Lots of those red beads too. Or you can quickly design something else inspired by what you can find.

Then get some thread, findings and tools. Thread- probably the softest wire string you will find at the bead store will be the simplest and almost the strongest you can and extremely flexible. Clasp, tornado crimp beads, needle nose pliers. Of course you can always add more.

I agree. Michael's craft store is a good starting point for local beading supplies if there is one in your area. They carry a wider assortment of better beads than ever before and, of course, the Beadalon coated wire. If you are mixing stones with pearls, it is better not to use silk as the stones may abrade their way through it.

Check out the major beading magazines at your local bookstore. You should find at least one with an index to bead shops across the country. I'm thrilled that you want to start making your own stuff. Be sure to post photos for us. No pressure!

Personally, I enjoy much more designs of "not so real designers". Much more creative, making use of different pearls (shapes, colors),doing daring mixing of pearls with all kind of semi precious stones... or even not precious at all...
"Real designers" tend to do ( in my opinion) more commercial designers, less innovative. Sometimes (most of the time, I think) not having the AAAAAAAAA pearls, nor gold or diamonds in unlimited supply, makes "un-real" designers be more creative, makes them do unusual combinations. And even if some of the creations have to be "redone" time and time again, the final masterpiece is worth displaying !!!

in an instant in a second of revelation. Then back to the mundane of business.

ps Turquoise and pearl always sell and are inexpensive and don't often have sharp edges that scratch the adjoining pearl.
