Tahitian Pearls from AmericanPearl.com

Been following your thread, the strand does look nice but if you've had your heart set on that piece in the photo... I can understand your disappointment. Hope all works out for you :) .

Definitly different from the picture they show but still not that bad, I know that you had your heart set on the one they photographed but if you shouldn't feel to bad about keeping the one you have if that is what you decide to do.

I agree that the piece does not look bad. But it is not as good as the pictured piece either. It does not have the same strong peacock colorations in all of the pearls. It also appears to be a multi-color strand in a couple of the photos.

Maybe, if you do like the piece, you can point this out and get a partial refund. You paid for a better piece and you had your heart set on a better piece.

If you do return it, I would expect that the return shipping should be reimbursed since the seller was not exactly without fault. There was no indication whatsoever that the original photo was just 'representative' and not one of the actual strand purchased.

Fingers crossed!

I agree completely. You should be able to ship it back to American Pearl on their FedEx number and get a full refund on your shipping and purchase price. You were not at fault in this case.

The fact is you had your heart set on a particular strand and it was presented to you as the exact strand. It is not one that can be reproduced easily (which is why most sellers of Tahitians use unique photos) and was advertised as the piece in the photo.

On another note, if American Pearl is using stock photos maybe you can check if they still have that particular strand in stock.

And maybe you should attach a photo of what they have represented to you.

The ones in the photo look very pretty to me. Did you not get the strand you were expecting?

Airdancer, the pearls are nice, but have none of the overtones that you were expecting. I think Jeremy's advice is good! Ask if the photographed strand is still available - maybe you can still come out of this with what you wanted.

It's nice, but for what you paid I'd really expect to get the one in the picture, and even that is already way overpriced. As I said I paid less than a third of your sale price (courtesy of PP), and my strand is really similar. I got it to match the Tahitian bracelet from Care Ehret as the shape was really similar but colors slightly darker, which I already expected since I liked it so much - you can still find the pictures somewhere. Your strand isn't bad, but it just doesn't have the overtones you specifically wanted.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and Jeremy for the excellent consumer advice! I do think it's pretty - so I hope no one was mislead. But I still look at the nice picture on the website and think - oooh, I want that one. I think someone mentioned that it could be photoshopped into a thing of beauty so it is likely that I am lusting after something that doesn't exist. So, am in two minds (whether or not to keep it)...

Also, Jeremy is right that it's bit multicolour. I now view the order page with 'new eyes', wondering if some pearls are multicolour as well.

nlerner: You know, that's exactly what I did the day after I bought it to check if it has become unavailable. I was quite uneasy when I found that other strands are still available. First reply from Eddie tells me that these are standard catalogue items. There are some one-of-a-kind strands are sold as is. I have replied his email to ask if the necklace on that page is still available.

(Hey, Bluepawprint! Great to see you around!)

Hi Airdancer,

Because of the price you paid, the huge difference in overtones, and the fact you loved that necklace so much to begin with, I would just follow Jeremy's advice and get a refund. Even though the necklace is still lovely, it isn't what you wanted. Then, maybe ask some of the vendors here if they can put together a similar strand for you, without an extreme photoshop make-over. ;) It won't be exact, but I bet you could get a lot closer to what you want and maybe for a much better price too.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
Jennifer

Hi Airdancer,
Just like what other members said, it is a lot of money for something that is not what was represented, and especially different from what you expected. The strand you received has only a few peacock pearls and quite a few gray and light gold/pistachio ones. You can get something matched by our online vendors for much better colors and pricing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
