Dear Deepak,

Dave is one of the finest experts on this forum regarding natural pearls. He thinks these pearls are not natural, nor Basra pearls, but consider them to be freshwater pearls of not particularly high quality. If that is the case, the necklace only has decorative value and in that case you can try to sell it on eBay as a pretty necklace with freshwater pearls. I have no idea what it could sell for but not anything compared to the price of natural pearls. Perhaps a couple of hundred dollars as it is pretty.

Personally I am puzzled that the last pictures shows clearly it is not a finished necklace. With that in mind it would probably bring in less since the buyer would have to find some way to mount it / string it befoye being able to wear it.

That style of necklace is more common in the East. :) If they are natural pearls, they are low quality.

One of the issues I have with calling pearls "Basra pearls" is that they can be from anywhere, but when they get to India, they become "Basras" (maybe because of the style of the piece more than the integrity of the pearls). This is an inexpensive version of a classic Middle Eastern style necklace usually made with Basra pearls. They probably are freshwater pearls- if Dave thinks so. They really do not look quite right for saltwater naturals, which points out one of the problems of using the term "Basra". I know it is traditional and popular, but it is problematic in cases such as this. If freshwaters from China are "Basras", then anything that has visited India to become jewelry becomes a "Basra pearl", which makes the term meaningless if you want the real origin of the pearls.

The style of the necklace is very classic and old fashioned and can be seen in Bahrain as well as India. It is not a very popular style here,, but who knows, maybe there just haven't been enough of them to make it popular. As for selling, maybe eBay. I don't know if there is a major auction house near you, but it might be worth a visit to see if they would list it. If they won't, then eBay is your best bet.

Dear Caitlin,
Many Thanks.
I have decided to send one or two pearls out of this necklace through somebody to USA or Dubai for the fill laboratories test report.
Surely, I will inform the progress.

Deepak Saxena

Then you will only have one or two pearls tested and they will not be attached. You should really send the whole necklace if you want to give a buyer confidence. :)

I am trying to help. In most labs, there is not a big price difference between testing a few pearls and testing the whole strand. :)

I understand. Many Thanks for the advice, but I am staying in India and it is not possible to send the full necklace through somebody to USA.
Regards,
Deepak

I have heard that there are good labs in India, where pearls have a long and lustrous history. The only one I know specifically is the GIA lab in Mumbai. I just hate the idea of your taking apart the necklace, but you must do what is necessary. Good luck with everything. :)

Many Thanks for your time and interest, I will contact GIA Lab Mumbai if they provide full report of necklace.
As it is told by the Delhi-India, they cannot provide the fulll report, may be there are restrictions now.
Regards,
Deepak
