New profile posts

Hello,

I’ve recently joined this forum. My family has a long history in Sri Lanka’s maritime trade, especially in spices and pearls. I’ve inherited a collection of natural pearls believed to date back to my great-grandfather’s time, well before cultured pearls existed.

They likely came from the Gulf of Mannar.

I’m here to learn more, understand what I have, and connect with others who appreciate such pearls.

Hello I am a new member or posting for the first time finally! I just want to say hi. I used to not like pearls (believe it or not) I’ve collected all kinds of jewelry since I was about eight years old.
Anyway now I Love pearls! Currently I acquired a 20 inch strand of South sea golden pearls ( I hope and I think). I need help in determining if they are dyed.
Looking forward to learning!

That is a very unique and beautiful strand of baroque south sea pearls. The little pin pricks are called "fish bites" in the pearl world. I love how some of the yellows are more green in luster. These could be dyed freshwater pearls or they could be south sea goldens (from the Philippians, where these goldens grow).

Hello again mother of pearl trumpet!
Thank you so much for looking at my pearls. I like the luster mostly of these golden ones but now I’m hunting to see what I can find in the way of keshi pearls!
I love those pearls a lot!
Well thank you for making me feel welcome and I will be sure to post more pictures and I also want to read in more detail about your journey !

This doesn't have any real value. These are typically considered decorations.

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately these aren't really considered valuable in the pearl industry.
Hi everyone. Please help identify this necklace. It has a Mikimoto box, pouch and booklet looks old. chain is 15 in. Clasp marked with M SIL and Sterling. Bail has an M and S. I cannot find another one like it anywhere so have no idea if it is real or what it may possibly be worth. Pearl is creamy white 7 1/2-8mm, looks pretty round, it is gritty when rubbed against another pearl. Pendant approx 1 1/2in

This looks like a genuine Mikimoto pendant. I think this post was missed because it was on your personal profile instead of the forum.
Hi there Sam.
I feel as if you are not posting with true interest, but more in a "spammy" way.
Please reply with intent.
Hi Doug.
I have read a lot about UV light on this forum which can give us info about whether pearls are being treated . Can u tell me where we can obtain these UV lights and is it safe for us to use it ? Thank You.

Sure thing! I purchased a few over the years. The newest one has LED light and saves on battery!
I've purchased them from specialized vendors...but I've gotten better prices on places such as Amazon!
I like Jewelmer Pearls had my first simple white SSP stud earrings and simple pendant in 2016. Since then bought the gold stud and pendant and ring. I am planning to get pearl gold strand then I plan to stop buying already. That is all. Thank you for educating things I learned in Pearl Guide.
Hi Jeremy,I have these jewelry bags called prezerve, they are meant to preserve sterling silver, so it won’t tarnish for up to 25 years. I keep my pearls in these bags because I don’t have a lot of space for storage. Is this a safe way to preserve my pearls or should I find another way,? Do you make anything like it but for pearls? I’m concerned that air does not flow. Can you please advise?

We have a large stock of Akoya pearls in all sizes …..

They don't have the pearls to fill their program requirements and prices in Asia have pushed up beyond their selling prices in many cases when the pearls are available. It's a tough time to be in the wholesale business ...

If you know anyone looking for lower priced commercial Akoya - please send them my way. We have a big inventory. We have been selling back to Japan recently (we sold 100 plus strands last week) - but I think I would get better prices in the USA! Fine goods are very slow but they are fetching ridiculous prices.

Can you send email me your inventory and pricing (jeremy@pearlparadise.com)? I can share it with the board of the CPAA. We only deal in Japanese akoya goods, so I don't personally have any need for Chinese, but the wholesalers with chain jewelry store and department store programs are in a world of hurt right now.
