Hi! Pearl Dream, I'd like to seek your advice on the tools.

I found this knotting tweezers at my local store but I'm not sure whether it's the same pair as Pearl Dreams', will it work the same?


The store has french wires too but they aren't not made of 14k white gold or yellow gold. The shop keeper said they're just gold color or silver color coated on the metal. Are the french wires on artbeads.com the same thing too?

Those tweezers are good-- they come to a narrow point, which is just what you need.

Yes, gold color and silver color are what Artbeads sells-- as do most other vendors.

I've only used this sort and have had no problems (but then I've only been stringing for a couple of years), but another P-Ger mentioned she find the vermeil (gold over sterling) gimp more durable. Here is a link to that sort:

Thanks a lot for your reply, Pearl Dreams. Did the color of your French wire come off or tarnish?

Are the French wires on firemountings gem.com made if real gold and real silver?

The color never has come off yet.

I have not bought the Fire Mountain gimp but the listings ought to be as stated-- real sterling, and real vermeil (which is a very thin coating of gold over sterling silver.)

I might try the vermeil gimp the next time I run out of it, but now that I think of it, I don't want sterling silver gimp-- wouldn't it tarnish?
