Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

JEG, love your goldens! But I'm feeling blue today. I can see blue so well now. The blues have become really intense looking to me after the cataract surgery. Vietnamese blue baroque akoyas from PP. Chinese freshwater pendant from Kojima. Mismatched baroque Tahitian earrings from Kamoka.

Arghhh! Berna you are killing me! Girrrrl!

Fancy colored Tahitians from Kojima. “Bubbles” and sister strand with Tahitian earrings I wrapped.

Thanks, BWeaves! I love bubbles, too!:giggle:

Several years ago, when I wanted to learn how to wire-wrap, I decided to make a continuous chain so I could keep practicing on one piece. I used base metal, faux pearls, and a mix of beads. I’ve been wanting to remake the piece using real pearls and nicer wire, and finally got around to re-creating the necklace.

The original necklace was my first attempt at learning how to wire-wrap. I took the baroque Akoya rope apart to use for the remake. I bought these pearls at an Intergem show a long time ago.

The remake using the baroque Akoya pearls and changing out a few of the beads, plus a little improvement in my wire-wrapping skills after some years of practice. Wearing it with my necklace made of random vintage Akoya from PacificPearlsUS.

So I used to frequent a forum for another type of item that had a neat thread called "Your **** in Action!" where people could post pictures of their item "working it" in the real world, I always used to enjoy browsing that thread! I thought it might be fun to start one here for those that wanted to post some pictures of "pearls in action" making us look beauteous IRL! Soooo, I'll start, here's some pictures of my pondslime strand and I in the restroom at work today (washing hands, not using the facilities!), please excuse the labcoat. I was mesmerized by the colors and lustre under the florescent lights of the bathroom. I'm not normally one for multicolored strands, but I just love this one, and I feel like the colors go with everything!

I had strung these initially with some gold spacer beads, but decided to restring them without them...I liked the beads but I felt they stole the spotlight from the pearls :) I used the beadcaps to make these cute little earrings out of a few of the extra pearls:

Here's a natural light comparison (out in the car driving around, which is where I generally am when not in the restroom washing my hands, pearls are really working it today!)

So...who's up for sharing some pics of YOUR Pearls in Action???

In honor of last night's Keshi Extravaganza, I'm wearing a 50" Tahitian Keshi tin-cup I bought from Kojima Pearl a long time ago. Some pearls are drops or baroques, but most are keshi. 2 pendants. The small flashy Tahitian is from Kamoka, and the large carved Tahitian is from Kojima. Tahitian stud earrings, 10mm from Ocean's Cove. Sea of Cortez pearl ring from Douglas, set in a PP rose gold Frost setting.

I'm new here and missed the Keshi Extravaganza, but wanted to chime in with how lovely these are. The carved pearl made me feel slightly covetous :) Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much, Pella and BWeaves! Pella, when you said “summer” you inspired me to create another necklace. I used gemstone beads that are not as seasonal. It’s not as whimsical as the original- slightly the more serious sister.

More PT (pearl therapy) from Kamoka. This isn't the weirdest pearl I've seen come out of the Kamoka pearl farm, but it screamed MINE. My willpower lasted a whole 2 hours before I bought it.

It looks like a little planet with its own moon. My husband has a PhD in Astronomy, and years ago he told me there is a minor planet in the asteroid belt named Berna. It has its own moon. It's asteroid number is 1313, my lucky number. Berna is larger than 99% of the other asteroids, so it's considered a minor planet. Berna orbits between Mars and Jupiter in the main portion of the asteroid belt. A Berna day = 25.46 hours. A Berna year is = 4.33 Earth years. Berna is about 14 kilometers in diameter, making it larger than 99% of the other asteroids, and comparable in size to the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Berna's moon is about 11 kilometers in diameter, and it orbits Berna at a distance of 35 kilometers once every 25 hours and 28 minutes.

Oh, the pearl is 10 mm. I love how the symmetry tipped at some point, so the circles of nacre don't line up with the circles of color. And I love the little white moon at the top.

You beat me to that pearl! I, too, thought it looked like a planet with it's own moon. I had it in my cart but by the time I was checking out, it was gone. I love the unique, quirky ones and this one is just so stellar. I'm forever amazed at the unique beauty nature provides. It's a stunner and I'm happy that this beauty went to someone who will love it as much as I would.

How cool is it you share a name with a minor planet and now you have a pearl to memorialize it?
