Visiting Dad today. Everything Bagel rope (pink and purple smooth Kasumi, white and gold South Sea, blue baroque and pistachio akoya, Kamoka Tahitian keshi). Mixed tin-cup (white and gold South Sea and Tahitian pearls with blue baroque akoya keshi and some Chinese freshwaters). Feather pendant. Dyed freshwater pearl drops on my own hoops. All from Kojima. Blue Baroque akoya ring from Takahashi.

This is less of a "show" and more of a "tell." Since I shared links to my Pearl Trip with my handweaving guild, I had two people bring pearls to our guild meeting on Saturday for me to evaluate. One had several ropes and bracelets of very nice quality akoya pearls, all with 14K yellow gold clasps. She said she didn't wear pearls and didn't know what to do with them. This was said while wearing a gorgeous 3 strand akoya bracelet and nice ruby and diamond earrings, with shorts and a T shirt. I told her to just wear them, all the time. The box had a Mayors Jewelers label, so they were good quality, if that's the box that came with the pearls. Always a mistake to assume that, but in this case, I think at least one of the pieces came from Mayors.

The other lady had a brutalist looking sterling silver ring with a really nice quality South Sea pearl. No flaws. Beautiful satin luster, but a bit dull because it was dirty. She bought it for $20 and thought it was a fake pearl because the surface was so smooth. I told her to give it a wash, because it was a bit grimy, and be careful not to get silver polish on the pearl if she tries to clean up the metal. This is the same lady who thought cultured pearls were fake pearls. She thanked me for educating her on how pearls are cultured.

I couldn't really give either lady a price their pearls were worth, because of course they asked me. The lady with the ropes wanted to sell, so I told her to look at EBay and other websites where jewelry is sold and see what similar pieces were going for. She used to have an EBay shop selling books, so she know how it works. The other lady just wanted an idea of the value of her ring since she only paid $20 for it. I thought that since it's silver and not gold, it won't be worth as much, but she doesn't want to sell it. Just know if she got a good deal. She did. For resale, I thought the ring could go from $50 to $100.

Failed experiment. The enhancer and blue pearl look kinda interesting on the side of the Argentium silver chain. But it was fidly to set up, and it wouldn't stay in place nicely. Looks good in the photo, though. Spring Rain pendant from Kojima. I found the interchangeable enhancer at Bella Findings House.

Triple strand necklace I had made in the early 1980s. I was in love with Princess Diana because she loved pearls. I had this akoya pearl necklace made as a dog collar (high neck choker) with two clasps, so I could have a different look depending on which clasp was in front. Over the years as my neck got less attractive, I had PP add more akoya pearls to lengthen the necklace to sit at the base of my neck. My parents bought me the ruby heart akoya pearl earrings after I lusted after them in the Mayors Jewelers case. These pearls are over 40 years old and they still glow. Although, I can definitely tell which pearls PP added. The new pearls have higher luster than the old pearls because the quality of the PP pearls is higher than the quality of my original pearls.

Long term lurker, new user ! Here are some of the pearls I’ve gotten from PP. My goal is collect every type of pearl that exists. I had some of the gem quality akoyas turned into a pendant and earrings set with diamond for my wedding. I have lots of loose pearls that I plan on drilling and setting myself

Inspired by our own @Pomelo, I recently purchased a pair of blue akoya earrings from Flower Jem on Etsy. PSS had fully set in, and the only cure was 8-9mm studs. I was so wonderfully pleased with these earrings, and the maker thoughtfully packaged them in a little pouch his mother made from unworn kimono fabric. My favorite part was the newspaper from Kobe used as wrapping. It felt like a mini trip to Japan pearl world! One day! Happily wearing them today with my dainty blue akoya trio from West Pearl. Perfectly light and airy for a hot summer day.

Also, @jeg I’ve so enjoyed the pictures of the mini ruckus. What a dream!

OOOO, PearlyLibrarian, I love your new blue studs. 9 mm is my new favorite size for studs.

I am also feeling blue baroque akoya today. 9mm BBA necklace from PP probaby 10 years ago. The photos don't show how soap bubbly the luster is on these pearls. Dyed freshwater earrings from Kojima.

It's SHARK WEEK and I'm 100% Kamoka chested today. I don't even like sharks. I don't watch Shark Week. But these pearls were just too cute.

Sharkey pendant is a carved Tahitian pearl with a cute shark on it. You can't even tell when I'm wearing it. You'd have to be staring at my boobs. The Prehistoric Time Traveler has a carved Tahitian pearl with a prehistoric shark's tooth. Mismatched studs (pale blue and dark eggplant). These earrings seriously go with everything.

Those carved Tahitians pearls are gorgeous. I love the shark tooth , it looks like a fossilized hammerhead shark tooth. When I lived in Florida I used to frequent shark tooth beach, I might incorporate some shark teeth when setting some of my pearls.

I’m wearing South Sea ropes today. The inner one is my harvest strand. The longer rope is a recent acquisition, both from Cees. They go with my yellow linen dress. It’s very hot here in Boston.
