I'm hoping to get some clarity on the type of pearls these are.

I was given these the day after I got married by my mother in law.

The story is that my husband's great grandfather was a doctor and he treated a very sick child from a travelling family. They didn't have any money to pay him so they paid him with Speyside pearls. This would have been around 1900. The family no longer lives in Scotland but did at the time of being given these pearls.

Until today, I did not realise how rare Scottish river pearls are and wondered if anyone here could confirm that's what they are.

When pearls are in settings, it's difficult to get complete views of each object. My scoring system does much help here either, because many of the points are masked by the settings. I'd definitely like to see other images from aside and the backs.

The pearls present with smooth, uniform surfaces surfaces in ideal geometry for the purpose.

The settings are simple, but elegant and well made all the same. They seem durable and other than minor some cleaning needed and appear in good condition.

Taking the provenance at face value combined with my cursory impressions, you have pieces which merit lab examination.

A very nice set, thank you for sharing these with us.

I agree with @Lagoon Island Pearls
Difficult to evaluate...but the pearls look lovely.
Due to the time period and the location, it makes sense to say these are indeed Scottish River Pearls...but often times we all make mistakes properly identifying the places or time-periods.
A proper pearl DNA test would -hopefully- confirm the information.

So if that were true...even getting a date on the ring & brooch would help. Any one have any idea WHEN they were set in the brooch or ring? Post a photo of the back of the brooch to help date it. Then you would have an idea if further research would be worth the $
