I am looking for publications for the pearling industry, pearl jewelry, pearl technology; actually anything related to pearls. Would you please provide me with the name of the publication and subscription information?

Thanks,
Mel

Mel,

There aren't any publications I'm aware of that only deal with pearls. Many publications feature articles about pearls on occasion; generally someone links them here.

In most B&M jewelry stores, pearl sales bring in only a small percentage (I recall reading low single digit) of yearly revenue, so not enough interest.

Right here at Pearl-Guide is where you will find the most authoritative, in depth, current information regarding anything pearly.

Pattye is right on that score: there are very few publications dedicated to pearls! Pearl-Guide is definitely the most up-to-date source for pearl news you can find. Some other sources include:

Jewellery Net Asia does have some good pearl coverage - they have a print version, but I haven't signed up for that yet. I do get the online newsletter twice a month: http://www.jewellerynetasia.com/en-us

They also host the Pearl Report: http://www.jewellerynewsasia.com/files/jna/Annual-Publications/PearlReport2014_lookinside_JNA.pdf

JCK (Jewelers Circular Keystone) also features pearl news from time to time, and they have a section dedicated to pearls: http://www.jckonline.com/pearl-news

Sustainable pearls does some really excellent coverage of the scientific side of pearling: http://www.sustainablepearls.org/

Then of course, you should probably buy Elisabeth Strack's "PEARLS", which is considered a definitive guide: http://www.amazon.com/Pearls-Elisab...03834&sr=8-1&keywords=Pearls+Elizabeth+Strack

At $340 plus shipping, it's not inexpensive, but it is a must have for any pearl library and filled with excellent information.

Have fun! :)

Mel this is the pearl bible no question about it, but keep in mind it also could use an update, some sections are badly out of date.

Wow, nice find! This is something I'll definitely have to look into, thank you for sharing. :D

Pattye my favorite pearls books are rather par for the course ;)

Pearls Elisabeth Strack
Pearls: A Natural History by H. Landman
Pearls by Hubert Bari

A lot of my favorite books are really just gorgeous coffee-table books with lots of beautiful pictures - I am a sucker for a pretty pearl lol, especially the conch and melo melo! One book I've been thinking about getting is Rare perle naturali: conch and Melo pearls by R. Sciaguato, which looks like it could be a good addition to my small but expanding library. :)

What about you all? What are your favorites Pattye? I'd also be very interested in hearing Mr. Bazaar's selections! ;)

Peter, Thank you! First time I've heard of this publication. That is about $90US with the exchange what it is now.

My list is similar to yours. Though I don't have the Landman or Sciaguato~yet!

Strack's PEARLS is at the top, of course. Seems like I look up something at least twice a week.

Renee Newman's PEARL BUYING GUIDE I often recommend as it's concise and fun with many photos of pearls belonging to P-G members, oh, and reasonable cost @ $20 or so.

Kunz and Stevenson, The Book of the PEARL paperback

Following books are educational and have fab photos, more the coffee table type, likely you have some or all of these, too.

Chadour-Samson with Bari, PEARLS Victoria & Albert Museum exhibit

Loring, TIFFANY PEARLS

Hackney and Edkins, PEOPLE & PEARLS

Malaguzzi, THE PEARL

Yes, please, everyone share your favorites!

Yes, several books have sections on Pearls and G&G magazine has some major articles on Pearls, but a real beauty is The Pink Pearl, A Natural Treasure of the Caribbean, after the text by David Federman.
