Hello everyone!

I'm hoping some of the knowledgeable members here might be willing to offer a little guidance.

Over time, I've accumulated a fairly large personal collection of cultured pearls, including more than 800 loose freshwater pearls, Edison pearls, large baroque pearls in unusual shapes and colors, Tahitian and other saltwater pearls, and some finished pearl jewelry. I also have numerous individually certified pearls, including larger freshwater pearls and saltwater pieces, with NGTC identification certificates.

I'm now looking to downsize my collection, but I'm having difficulty finding appropriate buyers or marketplaces, particularly for the loose pearls and individually certified pieces.

I'm not trying to sell anything directly through this forum. I'm simply hoping someone might recommend reputable pearl dealers, collectors, jewelry designers, or other avenues worth exploring.
Would it make more sense to approach potential buyers with the collection as a whole, separate the individually certified pearls, or offer smaller groups by type?

I'm located in Ohio and would prefer to handle sales online when possible.

I would genuinely appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thank you so much!

Pre-owned pearls do not tend to hold their value on resale, but many folks succeed in selling the ones they no longer want, especially if they are particularly unusual or beautiful. Realize, however, that there are a gazillion freshwater pearls on the resale market. These may be hard to sell.

Success in reselling is all about clear photos, good descriptions and -- importantly-- realistic prices based on research you should do before listing, of SOLD comparable items. This can be eye-opening. After doing this research you may decide not to bother listing a number of the freshwaters.

A return policy will also help buyers feel confident buying from you. Many sellers don't accept returns but that is a turn-off for me, personally. Photos of pearls often don't show what they are really like because lighting matters so much when it comes to luster and overtones..

Here are some venues to sell online:

1. eBay, of course. Don't be too quick to discount eBay! Your listings will get a lot of views.
2. Loupe Troop, although there are not a lot of listings for pearls there
3. 1st Dibs
4. Poshmark
5. Mercari
6. Ruby Lane
7.... Other folks will probably have suggestions.

Good luck!
