Is this cultured freshwater pearl?

We received this gift from Indonesia and I don't know if it is cultured freshwater pearls or polished shells.

Hi Simone, Welcome to Pearl-Guide! Tthese look like polished pieces of shell (mother of pearl) to me. Definitely not cultured pearls.

See the tiny little lines in a row? Those are the shell marks. I've seen shells that were called pearls and coral, but it was pretty obvious they were shells.
