Help identify the pearls used in this necklace

I need help in identifying the pearls used in this necklace. They are around 9.5 - 10 mm in size and on an average 5.5 carats each in weight. While some of them may appear round in the pics, they are actually oval shaped. Even though the main feature of this jewelry item is the uncut diamonds, I found the pearls very striking, hence the question.

Attaching picture of the full necklace. It is made by a leading jeweler in India. It is a recent piece in a vintage Mughal style, an art form known as Polki. The stones are indeed flat uncut diamonds that are traditionally used in Polki jewelry. It is made in gold and the green stones are Zambian emerald beads. While smaller pearls are often used as a decorative element in this art form, I was struck by the size of the pearls used in this piece.

Given that it is a modern piece I think it is most likely that the pearls are freshwaters from China, but large baroque akoyas are a possibility too.
Given the size and luster they are less likely to be south sea pearls.
And given that it is a modern piece there is no reason to think they are natural pearls.

Thanks, that’s helpful. The necklace belongs to a relative and she thinks that given the size, these could be south sea pearls. I thought that was unlikely.
