hi! I have been working for a while as a jewellery designer with round freshwater pearls and never had any problems with them. but lately i started drilling baroque/keshi freshwater pearls to hang in some chains or anything and ive come to a big problem with that..
the holes i need to drill are quiet big and i discovered in about 40% of the pearls greenish/greyish and sometimes brownis inclusions. i would say that the brownish one could be because of bad water quality and maybe bacteria inside the pearl? I dont use those pearls.

but i really dont know what to do about the greenish/greyish inclusions? its definitely not the nucleous, but seems to be maybe something that grew inside the pearl? it doesnt make a difference if i get my pearls from etsy or a high certified pearl seller, so many of them seem to have these inclusions... some are very very slightly and nearly invisible and some you can spot easily. also if i buy baroque or keshi pearls that are pre drilled and i look into the hole at some point i can see some greenish inclusions..
does anyone know what it is? and does it give a health risk to my clients, if they wear those pearls on a necklace?
I can only imagine it would be really nasty if its bacteria or fungus and they wear it close to their skin.... i really hope someone can help me with that, because i am so in love with all this pretty pearls and i really dont know what to do:(

It just looks like organic matter. There is nothing odd or wrong with that. Most natural and baroque cultured pearls will have some organic residue inside them.

So in ur experience it doesnt harvest bacteria or fungus or similar that can be transmitted to skin or anything?
