Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has stressed his keenness to support creative and gifted Emiratis who enhance the UAE?s global image.
Shaikh Khalifa was speaking as he received a copy of the book ?Abu Dhabi and Pearls ? A Story with a History?, compiled and edited by Dr Fatima Suhail Al Muhairi, director of the Al Hosn Research and Studies Centre, in collaboration with an elite group of researchers.
The book contains a foreword by Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince?s Court.
The book, which was released by Al Hosn Centre, offers historical data and facts in an analytical method and helps reflect on Abu Dhabi?s history with a focus on the links of its people with pearl-diving and its effect on the financial, cultural and social aspects of life in the emirate.
The book also highlights the importance of pearl-diving in Abu Dhabi and its significant role in shaping the social life within the emirate. It illustrates the effect of pearl-diving on family structure, education and architecture and as a cultural highlight of the community that had found its way into songs, fashion and proverbs.
In his introduction, Shaikh Hamed said ?As we celebrate the release of this book which illustrates the features of our prestigious history and heritage, we thank the elite group of researchers for their efforts in clarifying the various aspects of pearl diving in Abu Dhabi. As we highlight these facts, we are extremely proud of our grandfathers and forefathers, who left for us a rich legacy that guides us and laid the foundations and pillars of the glorious nation.?
Shaikh Hamed drew attention to Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan?s inspiring words: ?We would not have been living on this land without the efforts of our parents who been through turbulent times and managed to withstand harsh living conditions.?
Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalifa also received Dr Abdullah Ahmad Al Mandous, executive director of the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) who briefed him on the centre?s activity and functions.
Shaikh Khalifa was informed on the centre?s role in preparing and conducting studies on natural phenomena and aerial operations that rely on various methods ranging from mathematical analysis and field tests. Shaikh Khalifa showed interest in the centre?s activities related to the science of meteorology and artificial rain and sophisticated devices used for monitoring earthquakes.
Shaikh Khalifa praised the centre?s role in monitoring natural phenomena and its vast experience in monitoring and forecasting weather, and reiterated his support for the centre to be able to occupy a leading position among weather forecasting centres in the region.
Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, the Ruler?s Representative in the Eastern Region; Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, other shaikhs and senior officials, were present.
