I recently stumbled across a post on another forum and it was titled "Cultured vs. Freshwater Pearls". I was naturally drawn to this post because I was eager to see what this poster was getting at. First, I would like to mention that Freshwater pearls are cultured pearls. There is no separation. Secondly, the post mentions that Freshwater pearls aren't capable of having perfectly round shape and mirror-like luster. There are Freshwater pearls that do have both of these characteristics. I know because I carry them. No, they are not typical Freshwater pearls, but that's what makes them so special and rare. They're not like anything you would typically see. So in short, Freshwater pearls are cultured and can be investment grade, perfectly round, and have mirror-like luster.
