I picked up these 2 necklaces at an estate auction on line. They both feel gritty and are cold to touch. Both have 10k white gold clasps. The one with a tag that says international cultured pearls of nobility is only knotted between the last 4 pearls at end. Second necklace is knotted between each pearl and pearls are a little bigger and necklace is almost 19 inches long including the clasp. I am thinking that they could be Akoya because they look round and have a nice luster but maybe just nice sets of freshwater? I’m just too inexperienced to be able to tell the difference? I’m going to keep watching your videos, looking at pics and reading your posts. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge here on Pearl -Guide.

The knotting of only 3 spaces at each end is a Japanese way of knotting. I would be guessing Japanese Akoyas from the 60-70's with the 10k gold. Knots between each is more America and could have been made for a targeted US buyer..especially with the graduation...very popular in the 60's. My guess is Akoyas...but that is from style & materials... more than my pearl ID

Thank you A Breaker for your input and response. I agree with your thinking that they may be Akoya. I am new to this and lacking experience with pearl identification. Anyone else agree or disagree with these necklaces being Akoya?

Agree with A Breaker, lovely Akoyas! Well done, Brenda! Given the age of the pearls and their roundness, they would have the mother of pearl bead nucleus. I would just add, these appear to be more "natural white" rather than "pinked". Most of the Akoyas are now treated to have a slight pink tint these days. What do you think, Brenda? Personally I prefer the natural white.

Thank you Ms. Pattye for your expertise and comments. White pearls have always been my go to jewelry. I have worn them with t-shirts and blue jeans daily for many many years. Now that I have learned to do my own knotting I have many different colors and styles. I layer them and still wear on a daily basis. I have to say my favorite is the golden color south sea pearl. I fell in love with them when my husband and I went to Hawaii for our 45th. wedding anniversary. I had never seen one before. I shopped around all week and bought a few pieces. I just kept coming back to that single golden pearl with a black pearl beside it on a little gold chain. Brought it home with me. It has now become my special occasion necklace and when I wear it it reminds me of our anniversary trip to Hawaii and our life time together.
