A really precious gift

My best friend gave me this a few weeks ago. I was a bit emotional about it because it was a gift to her from her parents many years ago. They were like second parents to me and we miss them both very much, so it is a precious memory and hugely sentimental, as well as being just a beautiful and precious thing.

I thought this was a good place to show it off to people who like a nice pearly thing! It was a vintage piece when they bought it (too many decades ago!!) and we believed it to be a Tay pearl. You can almost see the Tay from where we live so it’s certainly possible but there’s no paperwork. Either way, is the most incredibly precious heirloom.

There isn’t a legible hallmark unfortunately. It has been sized too many times, I suspect

I’m probably safe; the right to commence prosecution expires after three years, I think. The sizing could predate the Act, to be fair. It’s quite an old ring.

You didn't do it. Some numpty jeweller did. ( and hallmarking has been going in the UK since Edward I in 1300 (28 Edw. I c.20))
