Need Help regarding Mikimoto Pearl Pearls - HELP

IMHO the description and photos are equal sources of information. Photos are important - but for better or worse, there are many factors that can impact the representation of an item in a photo vs reality. If the description contains more than just factual information then there is always the...

Need Help regarding Mikimoto Pearl Pearls - HELP

To take a contrarian point of view - you described the auction as "superb necklace"... "high luster quality, water, orient" ..."wonderful lustre and quality".... I would expect a high quality pearl necklace from this description. High quality akoya pearls are not "mellow lustre".

    Question re black pearls

I have a question for the pearl experts - are all black/dark silver pearls dyed for color (excluding Tahitians and Sea of Cortez)? If not, what are the clues for one to tell especially with vintage pearls? My interest in vintage/antique jewelry is expanding to include pieces with pearls and...

Dogeared Jewelry - perpetrating the myth

Re electrum, presumably green gold is the modern day equilavent given the same metal content? I guess you would get a pale rose gold if you alloy with sterling although typically the copper content is signifcantly higher.

New way to wear a kasumi pearl

Hi Olga, that is a super combination, love the kasumi pearl and the oxidized gold chains together; they really play off each other. I think you have a very special jeweler in Marcel, the chains are quite cool/edgy (wish I could find something like that in the states) and your recent posting of...

    Baby South Sea Pearls

I think the one on the right is SS - to me it appears more satiny in luster with a hint of gold in the color. If I'm wrong, it's all due to my monitor :D

Question re Oxidized Silver and Pearls

Thanks all for your responses, I was worried that the oxidization on the wire inside the pearls would leach into them and discolor them. I'm not too concerned if they get black marks around the drill holes as I doubt it will be noticable with the wire being black as well.

Question re Oxidized Silver and Pearls

So, I probably should have asked this before I was 3/4 of the way done with my project... Does anyone know if oxidized silver will discolor pearls? I am making a wire wrap necklace with FW pearls and have oxidized (ie tarnished using the egg method) the sterling silver wire before wrapping...

    100 Inch Rope Challenge!!

Great design Sueki! I didn't think I liked rosebud pearls but I am reconsidering them after seeing your necklace. The colors really pop against the white pearls.

    Attention pink lovers!

Hi Wendy, love the baroque pearls! They appear to have some unique blemishes - are these spots where not all of the pearl was covered in a layer of nacre?

    Tahitian Stretch Bracelets

Boo, oh how true!! I used 1mm Stretch Magic for my tahitians, thinner diameters for smaller pearls like the silver akoya baroques. I double knot, then melt the ends and tuck into a spacer bead.
