A little collection of natural pearls I've found over the years of diving.

Beautiful colors on those, Michael. I didn't realize so many pastels came from the our natural pearls here.

Wow, they are pretty. I also had no idea that Mississippi naturals could be so big, either. Colours are beautiful.

There have been some very good pearls taken from the rivers. My cousin has a 21mm round that is really something. There are a lot of rosebud pearls also.

Mmm, I noticed a couple in your pic. What makes pearls form with the rosebud/druzy surface? What changes the proportion in a given quantity of pearls?

Hi Mikkey:
Previous to today I have not been a fan of our river pearls, having seen too many dull tiny ones. Yours are very nice. I see I must revise my interest in them. Great pics!
Thanks,
barbie

Ooh,
Very pretty pearls Mikeyy. I love those pale pinks....
Thanks for the photo.

WOW! How wonderful to find those yourself while diving... There is something "magical" about a natural pearl. these are really pretty.

Cheers
Ash

Mikeyy,

Those pearls are just wonderful! Any chance of close ups? It might take more than 1 photo to show them all. PLEASE??? I love the rosebuds also.

I'll sure try. My photo skills rate about the same level as my ring making skills. But I'm like you. I think rosebuds are cool.

Lets see if this works out. Sure wish they were a little bigger. But they are what they are.

Good job. I'd wear those!

Me, too! They're beautiful.

And Mikeyy, I'm sure you could convince your cousin that your dear tattooed mermaid pearlfreak friend whom you haven't met but who must be really deserving would make an excellent long-term guardian for his 21mm round pearl....

Hi Mikeyy,

Those are terrific! Love the textured gold mountings, and sooooo much iridescence on the pearls---what size is the unmounted pearl in next to last photo?

It would be great if your cousin could cough up a photo or two also, for scientific purposes, of course-------------

I wish I could even see it again. He keeps in in a bank vault. He found it about 20 years ago and I haven't seen it in 15 probably. I actually have a very small collection compaired to some other divers and shell buyers I know. I knew a shell buyer who had a pickle jar full. I mean a real big pickle jar. But he was arrested and sent to prison for poaching. Don't know what became of his pearls. Maybe U.S. Fish and Wildlife knows.

My big one is 13mmX20.5mm the biggest rosebud is 12mmX10.6mm.

Sadly, A family falling out has made my access to my cousin or his pearl unlikely. But next time I get together with some of the divers I'll see what everyone has. You realize that during the hay days of diving shells whenever you found a good pearl you would generally get it made in to a piece and hang it on some girl. Don't know what ever happened to that girl. Or the pearls. :D:D

And by the way. Thanks for the tat shots. I'm not anti tat. I could never figure out what to get until I saw your pics. So next time I'm standing around while my friends are getting inked I'll be able to sit and join the club. :D

Wowee Mike!

Is it possible to get one?
Sure! This is how I did it. You go underwater in pitch black conditions. Then you start feeling around the bottom for shells. Then you throw them in your bag. And then your boat tender (Slave labor) pulls that bag up while you pull another down and begin filling it again. Then your tender seperates your shells. Whenever he or she finds a misformed shell. They will set it aside in a bucket. Then at the end of a long hard day. You get your knife out and see if you've scored a pearl. Your going to find one eventually. It may be ten tons of shells later. But if your very commited it will happen. :D

Ah! you are starting to figure out what a big push over I really am Caitlin. But I don't have a purple one for ya. :)
