Baroque Akoyas

I tried to get a picture of the baroque Akoya's I just received from a vendor in China. Unfortunately, I have some work to do on my up-close picture taking. It is a bit blurry and the color isn't as blue as "real life." I'll try again on the weekend with natural light (if it stops raining here in Boise). The color on them is a lovely light blue with a lot of iridescence that I have absolutely missed on the photo. The strange thing are the tails and dangly things on some of them - they are "rough" looking baroques ;-)

Hi John,

The tails and dangly things on the Akoyas indicate to me that they had much more time in the shell than normally and that surely means, Your pearls have a lot more nacre around the nucleus than the commercially sold round Akoyas. That should make You quite happy, as they will last much longer than treated Akoyas.:)

Nice photo.

Thanks, Inge - sounds great! I think they will end up as a present to my sister. She will really appreciate them. Meanwhile, I can marvel at the amazing color.
John

I did some multiple strand shots for the baroque Akoyas too:

Absolutely beautiful, Raison.
Every time I see your photos. I want to buy....
And do stop hating your neck - if you didn't have the neck, you'd not be able to wear the pearls......... ;)

Ohh, I love your baroque akoyas!! They are crazy beautiful!! The three strands worn together is fabulous.:)

I'm starting to think I should get the strands restrung in to a double and single that can be combined to form a triple strand. That way I can leave Terry's strand (top) free to use as a single as it matches more with his natural color Akoya earrings (simply gorgeous) and bracelet since it's slightly a different shade and not so overwhelming for less formal occasions. Actually I'll wear them to the market anyday, they're that pretty. Now I have to figure out where to get it from. The twin clasp pearllove posted about from AP is ideal, but I'm just not happy with the way they're representing themselves and it's just for two single strands combined to make a double so I'll try to find a local dealer in Australia.

Any ideas? The length of the necklaces will need to be adjusted too for nesting.

The pearls look great on you!:) Makes me kind of regret not getting more than one strand when Jeremy offered it earlier in the year.:( I just like the way he beautifully matched and graded every strand, each unique strand has its own number, it seems more like what the pearls deserve.;)

Happy Holidays!

Raison: Hi! Are the strands of varying lengths? That will have an impact on the clasp you need.

The strands are the same length, but I'd probably have it restrung so it's nested. Will have a think about it. Probably 16" as a single, then 17" and 18" as a twin strand.

Gorgeous Raison! I had Jeremy do a double strand for me in the baroque akoya (17" and 18" with a couple of the pearls pulled out and put on ear wires for earrings). My only trouble is that the double strand is a bit much to wear to the grocery store, so I've only worn it a few times.

Based on how wonderful they look in your photos, I'd say do it! Do you already have a matching bracelet? ;)

As a matter of fact, I do have a matching bracelet from Terry.

Now I'm in a dilemma as to whether to have the two strands strung as 16" and 17" and have Terry's as a single at 18". It makes more sense, but Terry's is a shade lighter and I'm not sure if it'll look as good as the bottom most strand. If I have the twin strands at 17" and 18" Terry's will be a single 16" choker.

I'm not sure how many pearls will be leftover, it'll be 3 inches worth of pearls, which I guess is closer to 8 pearls. I suppose I could get them made into dangle earrings (screwbacks, hopefully). I already have a pair of dangles courtesy of the lovely boo, and Terry's natural Akoya studs which are just gorgeous. What could I do with the leftover pearls? Open to suggestions and designs! Thinking of getting my freshadama clipons switched to screwbacks so I could wear them more often as well. So much stuff to do in the new year!

Hi Raison,
Why not have the necklaces re-strung singly, each a diferent length, so's you can wear one, two, or three as the mood takes you ?
And, if ball clasps are used, you can join them to wear as a single, long rope.
I have mine like this, and they are so versatile this way.

Cool, that's a great idea. I won't have to send them back to be restrung then - I think they can do this locally without problems. If they use the same clasps I won't be worried of people swapping it for something of inferior quality.

:)
There's a photo. on here somewhere of my freshwater baroques - three separate necklaces, strung at different lengths. These I wear singly, two together, and even all three together.
But they are a little large for the long rope. But the baroque akoyas I often wear as a rope.
If you find the pic., you'll realise how lovely your own neck is.....
Have a great Christmas.

Guess what, you guys are geniuses - I don't even need to get it restrung! I linked the two strands from Jeremy with the ball clasps, and they kinda nested themselves as a double strand at with a gap in between for Terry's 18" strand. It looks so natural!

I really like the coiling thing ... I just wish the forum wouldn't keep running my words and cropping the pictures off the page.

Triple strand coiled together. Can you tell that Terry's is slightly lighter in coloration? It's got exceptional orient, while Jeremy's doubler is slightly bigger, and a richer silver blue that's perfect as a twin strand.

...so just a bit earlier today I posted about looking for something baroque for my next pearl purchase. Then I came across the thread mentioning TPO's 60" rope special. Then I went to TPO's site and found this silver Akoya baroque necklace. Does anyone have thoughts and/or suggestions about quality I'd likely get in this purchase? From reading, it looks like some of you may have purchased from this offering last fall...
