Here you have one more high value wild pearl sold on auction for 462.000 US dollar.
Most expansive pearl ever sold in Sweden.

This pearl has to come from a Pinctada oyster.
Or what oyster do you guys / girls think it came from ?

I would only be guessing as to the species, but it is a large pearl, so Pinctada maxima is a good choice. Large pearls have been found in smaller species, so it is hard to say with any authority. It's a beautiful pearl and I love the antique setting.

I don't like it so much ! It makes me think of a bean, and it must be damaged at both ends, to have generated such a setting.
But it is definitely big !

i think its a pinctada radiata they do come in such a fabulous size...

The large Persian Gulf pearls come from pinctada maximas, which were/are also native to the Gulf. see Kunz 1907 and Carter 2012. Pincada radiatas are closely related to akoya pearls and rarely produce even 9mm pearls. 7mm is about the largest I ever saw from a radiata.
