Most expansive Pearl ever sold in Sweden ( 462.000 $ )

I would only be guessing as to the species, but it is a large pearl, so Pinctada maxima is a good choice. Large pearls have been found in smaller species, so it is hard to say with any authority. :) It's a beautiful pearl and I love the antique setting.

I don't like it so much ! It makes me think of a bean, and it must be damaged at both ends, to have generated such a setting.
But it is definitely big !

The large Persian Gulf pearls come from pinctada maximas, which were/are also native to the Gulf. see Kunz 1907 and Carter 2012. Pincada radiatas are closely related to akoya pearls and rarely produce even 9mm pearls. 7mm is about the largest I ever saw from a radiata.
