Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

Merrily: Love your torsade of mixed necklace styles.

SurfnSci: I approve of shorts and SS pearls!!!

Yesterday, it was Sharky and Planet Berna. Plus some new Sprang I'm working on, 6 thread intertwining. Tahitian pearls from Kamoka. Planet Berna with its own moon. Carved Sharky pendant. Sun and Moon mismatched studs.

Visiting Dad today in linen and pearls. I would never have mixed blue baroque akoya pearls and Tahitian pearls until I had these earrings made with both types of pearls. Mismatched earrings custom made for me by OceanRhyme. BBA necklace with amazing pink and green overtones by Pearls of Joy. Carved Tahitian drop pendant by Kojima Pearl. I think I'll wear some Tahitian and BBA rings, too, but I haven't put them on yet.

The blues and tahitians are a winner with those earrings!

Makes me want to hunt down mis-matched earrings for myself and play with combos...

WOW! So much fun to catch up on everyone’s pearly posts!🤗 Love all the great looks!

BWeaves, I’ve seen some of your gorgeous shawls, but how do you use your rope and strap-like projects?

JEG: Wow, I've never seen Kasumi keshi like that before.

I use the obijime (rope like braids) and flat bands as either belts or purse straps. I've also used some of the smaller silk ones as necklaces and put pendants on them, although it's been awhile since I've worn one. The wider sprang samples usually become small drawstring bags. I'll try to post some photos tomorrow.

Thanks, BWeaves! I hadn’t seen Kasumi keshi in these petal shapes before either. I purchased the necklace several years ago during a Kojima studio visit.

A golden SS ombre rope from a PP holiday special, with a special golden SS strand from the last PP Ruckus. Worn with earrings I wrapped with Myanmar SS pearls from Druzy.

What I wore to work today: WSS strand from a local jeweler and Fijian pearls from Cees set in the white gold PP blossom setting.

Wow, Syrie, those are stunning pearls. I've always loved the blossom setting.

JEG, gorgeous pearls as usual. Here's your request. What I do with my kumihimo (Japanese braiding).

Kumihimo is Japanese braiding. These are 2 layer braids made on a takadai (Japanese high stand for kumihimo). I replaced boring black straps on some nylon purses with these kumihimo braids. The double layer braid on the top has 66 strands and had 96 different braiding steps. The two straps at the bottom had 52 and 76 strands, but only 3 different braiding steps that were repeated multiple times.

Kumihimo is Japanese braiding often used for obijime, the thin belts that go around the obi when wearing kimono. I make mine to wear as belts. The wide red belt was braided on a takadai (the high stand). The round green and purple belt was braided on a marudai (the low stand), and the two other belts were woven on an ayatakedai (a warp weighted loom).

Your SS’s are beautiful, Syrie! I’ve always wanted something set in that blossom setting, too.

Thanks for taking the pics of your work, BWeaves! I especially love the leafy designs. My grandmother used to make all our kimonos, but all the obi ties were purchased. I do not miss being dressed in the full kimono gear for festivals. The obi and all the ties are what I imagine a corset would be like. I dug up some of the vintage ties I brought home from my parent’s house, but they are not as detailed as your’s.

And back to pearls…

Oh JEG, they're beautiful. I especially like the one with red ikat leaf shapes (some of the threads were tied and dyed before the obijime was braided). That is so cool looking. The one next to it with the pattern that changes selvages is also very facinating. Gorgeous pieces.

And yes, I'm a sucker for anything with leaf designs.
