Pearls do the Strangest Things

Back in April 2008, we had a thread that originated from a post on Gemology Online by dbucfanGG and was posted by member Valeria101, about hairy pearls. Yes, you read that right!

A photograph of a beautiful strand of pearls was posted, but one of the pearls had what only could be described as dark hair growing directly out of the surface. Joking about five o'clock shadow and the lack of quality in modern nuclei ensued, but someone needed to get to the bottom of it.

Octo-Artist: Sheri Jurnecka!

Sheri Jurnecka was a big hit in Tucson this year as she was stopped repeatedly by admirers of her fantastical and enormous octopus-pearl creations. And now she has spawned a litter of little creatures, seen below along with two "adults" in different metals.



Even the undersides are a work of art.
