What are these pearls?

Hi all,
I inherited a string of pearls 30 years ago, from an old aunt.
Bit of background; my uncle was a very well respected antique dealer and collector who travelled the world from the 40’s until his death. He bought these pearls back from somewhere in the Orient for my aunt.
I had them valued for insurance purposes in 2005, but after reading up about pearls this morning, I am questioning whether they identified them correctly.
When examining the drill holes, they are black all of the way through. There is also a tiny chip in one of the pearls, only visible with a magnifying lens and the colour underneath is also black.
I’m attaching some photos, including the notes from the valuation.
Many thanks to anyone who is able to help 😀

They’re definitely pearls, but rather than being dyed, I was wondering if they maybe Tahitien pearls.
What makes you think that they are not pearls ?

1. Colors are wrong for Tahitians
2. too small for Tahitians
3. glossy sort of finish-- not pearl-looking
4. Not dyed freshwaters either, too long ago for that shape
5. Not typical color for dyed akoyas
