I agree, they look fake, but I will add that it's very hard to evaluate pearls photographed against a dark background. And some of the photos are out of focus also. If you would like us to take another look, plese post photos against a white background, like maybe a paper towel.

Here is a simple test you could try. Rub two of the pearls together gently-- what do you feel? Fake pearls glide smoothly against one another. Real pearls feel gritty.

Real pearls are also cooler than fake pearls. If you have any other pearls that you know are fake (or that you know are real), put them all in the same temperature environment for half an hour or so, and then touch them to your lips, which are very sensitive to temperature.
What do you feel?

Clasps were sterling sometimes. My grandmother's pearls had a sterling clasp, for example. The idea was that you wanted to spend your money on the pearls, not the clasp.

My grandmother's fake pearls had a sterling clasp. Richelieu faux pearls usually had sterling clasps. Mikimoto used to use sterling clasps in the 1950s and 60s and probably before. But the quality difference between the two brands is what sets those clasps apart.
