Just want to share a golden SSP that I recently got, it has something that makes me curious. Probably it's more common than I thought, but since this is the first time to me to see (or notice) it, I'm wondering what this is.

On one end, the pearl appears to have flat surface, I measured it and it's about 8mm width.

But when you touch it, it feels round, and as you tilt it to the side, you can see that there's this sort of transparent "dome" covering this flat part. And so, no more flatness when you view it from this side.

Sometimes we have pearls that have blemish, but feels smooth to touch because the blemish is under the last layer. So, maybe this is just one of those nacre's wonders?

More pictures to be clearer.. It's like the pearl has been dipped in a glass-like material.

A pearl with a transparent window is called an "ocular" pearl. Little known facts! ;)
