As mentioned on another thread, this is a great book with some easy to read and detailed explanations of what search engines look for and some current thinking on how to optimise a website legitimately:

The author was previously Lead SEO at seomoz.org, a leading SEO software business.

The only caution I would advise with this book is that it was published in March 2011. Since that time, Google and the other major search engines have released multiple upgrades to their search algorithms that have had huge game-changing impacts on the internet; most notably Google's Panada updates which began rolling out in March 2011.

I haven't read this book and I don't know this author, but when I see statements like "...reveals secrets used by only the best SEO consultants.", for me, that's a yellow flag.
