I apologize in advance as I realize these are not high-quality pearls. However I have done exhaustive Internet research and cannot find anything like these. My guess is Tibet, China, Myanamar, Philippines. I happened to be wearing them when I was at an estate sale one day and the man running the estate sale assured me they were freshwater pearls and thought them a very nice color. He said that shells could be shaped to make shaped pearls. I have never heard of that. They are a very nice brown color with blue and other highlights. I think they resemble acorns. 6mm x 4mm.

Once again sorry if these don’t fit your forum. Im just curious should anyone know anything. The clasp is nothing special, not silver. Perhaps a piece of yellow calcite on clasp. The dzi bead is nice and has an engraved tiger on the back. Thanks for chiming in. I just recently replaced my pearls because mine disappeared. And my mom has a strand of Mikimoto from the 50s!

They appear to be faceted, dyed Chinese freshwater pearls. The interesting shapes you see are created after harvest, not by the mussel growing the pearls.

It's not possible to shape shells to shape pearls :)

Thank you so much. I thought it sounded odd, shell-shaping, but he shushed me. Lol.

Arlie,
Welcome to the forum! What an interesting necklace, I've always liked dzi beads and the faceted pearls are a complimentary accent. Bet you get compliments on this piece!

Thank you Pattye
I bought it on “unique” factor, and since doing research I have learned about dzi beads and now shaped pearls. I like puzzles/mysteries! The person I bought it from advertised it as Native American which I knew it was not (I’m in NM). At first I thought African but that didn’t feel right either. So I’m guessing Tibetan/Chinese. Looks to be a two eyed dzi bead. It was fascinating learning about the dzi.
