Sounds like some sort of covering for the pearl will be part of this experiment, so the wax will not actually be touching the surface of the pearl.

So sorry to not have clarified. Yes the pearl will be wrapped in plastic or another material to seal it, keeping it away from the wax. So the pearl will stay dry. And yes, the jar holding the candle will be big enough so none of the plastic or other material comes in contact with the flame.

Some things one just has to experiment with, like this! Not a huge investment, so why not?
