Hello....l have a Mikimoto Pearl Case that is considered "Rare" by a seller from Japan that sold one with a Mikimoto necklace in it just like the one that l own. It was sold a couple of months ago for just over $1500 and wish to more about this case. When it was made and if it was made for a special anniversary by Mikimoto. Enclosed is my Mikimoto case with the vintage Mikimoto necklace that came with it. Thanks for any information about this unique case.

I have not seen one like mine till l saw that a Mikimoto pearl and case set was sold on Ebay a month or so ago from Japan. I didn't even see any bids on it so it must have been a buy-it-now? It just had a "Sold" price on it and was surprised because it looked just like mine!!!

Very interesting!

Wouldn't it be helpful if Mikimoto was more forthcoming with "free" information, or if there was a comprehensive book one could reference.
Someone needs to do some research and put all the photos and information they can find about Mikimoto jewelry and accessories including my clamshell case. Every Mikimoto pearl lover would want a copy l am sure, including me. Wonder if l can email Mikimoto and try and get some information on my case? Thanks for your interest Pattye.

Wanted to post a few more photos for clarification, the first is the Mikimoto pearl necklace and case that was sold on Ebay a month or so from Japan. The second and third photo is the Mikimoto case and pearl necklace that is mine. Still looking for information on the age of the clamshell case and why there seems to be so few out there?

I find cases so interesting and have fixed some of them. Yours would be $$$ to make, as opposed to simply stamping lettering on the interior silk lining. (I had a Mikimoto case that had the same design interior & exterior as Sakata, but with the Mikimoto gold foil stamp on the interior silk lining instead of Sakata's stamp.) I wonder if you can find more about the date by using the clasp? There seems to be particular clasps used in particular times...so that might help.

Hello....l too like interesting cases and that's why l bought mine in good used condition with a vintage Mikimoto necklace inside it. The silver clasp almost looks to be Art Deco Era but could be from the 50's or 60's too. Maybe l should put a photo of my necklace's clasp up and see if anyone knows when it was made? Thanks for your interest too!!!
