Freshwater Pearls?

I am thinking these are freshwater pearls. They were wedding pearls the owner didn't want anymore. They were a wedding gift and she isn't into pearls so I got them for $15. I have never seen this kind of clasp before but it is marked 14K. Thank you so much for any help. ~d

The lady I purchased them from doesn't know what they are. She did give me the name of the jeweler that they were purchased from so I will find out later when they open. Thank you ~d

Well, because they are so round and well matched it's difficult to say if freshwater or akoya or faux from the photos. But the color seems more like freshwater. And very pretty! A nice buy, for sure. Does that type of clasp make the necklace adjustable? Is the clasp silver? Has it been knotted between the pearls?

Thanks Pattye, the clasp is 14K white gold and the clasp clamps around any of the smaller pearls so its adjustable that way. They don't have knots in between them. Should they be knotted in between the smaller and larger pearls? The large pearls average 7 1/2MM and the smaller ones are 3 1/2MM. Thanks. ~d

14K and a very versatile clasp, that is good news! Yes, it probably would be good to have the pearls knotted between. It would make the necklace a bit more flexible and prevent loss of pearls in case the string breaks. Let us know if the jewelry store says freshwater or akoya. Most likely freshwater.

How come I don't have any friends that want to sell their pretty pearls to me?

Thank you all so much for you help. She said that they are more than likely freshwater. She said she kinda remembers the strand when they came in but they only carry freshwater or cultured pearls. Which was confusing to me because I thought freshwater were cultured pearls. I think she was referring to saltwater pearls when she called them cultured? Its a small jewelers and I had to wait to talk to the pearl specialist. She seemed offended when I asked if they carry faux pearls. Oops. LOL

Pattye, I used to buy estate jewelry lots and sell them on ebay. Boy do I wish I had known more about pearls back then. I closed up shop 5 years ago, when I had my youngest. So my neighbors come to me all the time for advice, since they can get it from me for free. lol Oh and you are so right about the flexibility of the pearls. I will try to restring them when I get a little better at it. Trying to restring some Honora dyed FW pearls now. Wish me luck Thanks so much everybody for being so kind. ~d
