Hello everybody.

New on the forum, nice to meet you all.

I’ve recently purchased from a jewelry this pearls: sold as black Tahitians.
I was wondering if anybody would be so kind to give me any insights and opinions on them. I’ve tried taking pictures both under the sun and not. I may add some under led/indoor light as well if it may help. (I didn’t use the seller’s pictures since they were visibly taken in a studio with light meant to magnify them). If I may provide any other details please let me know.
Thank you very much for any advice 🙂

Thank you very much for all your prompt replies, much appreciated! Extra pictures, closeups/details, may help? Is there a way I could “prove” it to the seller, beside providing a “Gemological Analysis”? Just considering that despite being nice looking I’ve explicitly purchased them as Tahitian, and (please correct me if I’m wrong) I’ve been told that some due may give allergies and so on to the wearer.

Hmmm I’ve never heard of dyed pearls inducing allergies in the wearer. Does Not mean it can’t happen . I would just return to seller without explanation other than they don’t suit you.

Ask for a refund, and if he balks, give him a link to this thread. Jeremy Shepherd (jshepherd) is the owner of Pearl Paradise, president of the Pearl Association of America, and co-author of the CPAA "Pearls As One" course-- and if he says they are freshwaters, you can take that to the bank. And so can your seller.

More pictures won't make any difference.

Color treatment should not cause allergies.

I have observed that some sellers use "Tahitian black" as a color descriptor and not necessarily as a pearl category.

Thanks for the advice and for letting me know, much appreciated! 🙏🏻 I’ve surely ended up in the right place for making my inquiries

If I may ask one last question: I don’t want to go against any website policies. Would be possible to ask if dyed freshwater pearls have any actual value at all (if properly declared to be treated) or if they are mainly used to fake more expensive natural colours and nuances (losing whatever value they may have had if let untreated)? Total newbie in the world of pearls

Lots of folks like wearing dyed freshwater pearls (I have a strand myself), so yes, they do have value. But nowhere near the value of saltwater pearls of natural color.

If you are interested in learning more about pearls, may I suggest you take the "Pearls As One" course? I will DM you a code to take if for free.

The course is very informative. And many people enjoy dyed freshwater, but we all want to actually know what we are buying.
