Not ebay, but similar auction site. Are these dyed freshwater, or....?

Yes, I was half watching those, but I wasn't in love with them, and they'll probably go for way more than they are currently at. In that case, I'd rather just buy some earrings that I loved that were new, or pick the exact pearls I want and set them myself :)

Thank you, then I am passing on them! The help is much appreciated.

Not ebay, but similar auction site. Are these dyed freshwater, or....?

Sometimes you can find treasures on the Goodwill Auction side, but I am mystified by these. Are they tahitians? Dyed freshwaters? I wish I wasn't still so clueless about pearls still. Sometimes it's obvious what they are, but some, like these, I just don't have enough knowledge to figure it out...

    Painted MOP

Oh goodness, I've seen several similar pieces recently, but they weren't on MOP, they were made of blue morpho butterfly wings that had been carefully used to make pictures. I believe, but not 100% sure, that it was an early 1900s trend, and the pictures depict traditional middle-eastern stories...

    Loose Pearls

you could try gemrockauctions.com too. They aren't going to be as high quality as the ones you'll find from many of the vendors here, but the site is very selective about the sellers it allows and you can be sure you're actually getting what they say they are selling.

These are very interesting...what are they?

Lol! They just looked so....strange. I've never seen anything like them so I couldn't tell if I was missing something or what. Passed them up for an even more interesting diamond and emerald clasp on an old set of pearls. I love antique findings so was definitely a better choice on my part.

These are very interesting...what are they?

The pictures aren't very clear, unfortunately. I was watching it, but it just sold...did I miss out, or was this a ridiculous price for these? I was asking the seller questions, so I do know the clasp was something cheap. She thought it had been restrung over the years...

First strand from scratch - what I learned today

Those are beautiful! The colors that pop out in circled tahitians are just amazing, and your necklace is just gorgeous :)

    Conch pearls on Rubylane?

I realize this thread is pretty old, but I can't help notice the appraiser of these conch "pearls." I keep running across "appraisals" from this guy in all kinds of random places(online auctions, ebay, etsy, etc), on things I know are NOT what the "appraisal" claims, in either description or...

Some random pearls I picked up--what are they?

I guessed right! It appears I *am* learning something, haha! Thank you for the suggestions--there are definitely a few where the nacre looks like it's gone, so I'll pull those out. And yes, the clasp area looks atrocious--I've got some silver french wire I'll use to make it look decent. I...

Some random pearls I picked up--what are they?

I snagged these on ebay for what I thought was a great price ($20) because I just loved the way they looked. They badly need to be restrung, especially since they aren't currently knotted. Using what I've learned here and on the Pearls as One course, I knew they were real pearls, but I am just...

Here's another, but this time I honestly have no idea. Tahitian or not?

It's the optimist in me hoping that maybe they just didn't know what they had, LOL. I did snag the most beautiful carved angel skin coral necklace and removable pendant set in 14k gold for a ridiculous price at a local auction once (no one had any idea what they were but me, it appeared), so I...

Thank you! I'll learn eventually, I promise! Thank you for tolerating my random questions :)

So I wish someone had warned me this was so addictive--my next attempts :)

There is something soothing about knotting pearls. I've been practicing on a few cheaper, small strands of pink freshwaters. The one that has silver accents has been claimed by my 7-yr-old, and the other I've tossed in my etsy store just for the heck of it. These are knotted on the "Baby" color...

Here's another, but this time I honestly have no idea. Tahitian or not?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Tahitian-Cultured-Pearl-Necklace/371986275731?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055359.m1431.l2649 They honestly don't scream fake to me, and the colors seem more subtle and more Tahitian-like than the dyed strands I've seen. But, I'm such a newbie here...

There's no way these are South Sea pearls, right?

Thanks, glad to know my pearl radar is developing. The color was the first giveaway for me, then the shape. And obviously the price. I wasn't considering them (thanks to the forum I've become quite the customer of Pearl Society, Agustus collection, and I just got an amazing package from Druzy...

    Problem or a nuisance?

I'm just a beginner when it comes to stringing pearls so I am no use in that regard, but oh my goodness, that is a STUNNING set of pearls. Just wow.

There's no way these are South Sea pearls, right?

So thanks to this forum, I now go out of my way to search and compare pearls on ebay. Today, I came across these, and I guess ebay was stalking me because a few hours later I got an email from ebay telling me they'd been reduced by $600 (!!). My guess is they are dyed freshwater pearls. Am I...

A hello, a BIG thanks, and my first pearl strand!

I learned ALLLLLL about the usefulness of bead reamers when the very first thing I did was get a knot from the original stringing material stuck in one of the pearls. That was a nightmare to get out. I now have a cordless reamer on order (again, thanks to info on the forum here) so I don't have...

A hello, a BIG thanks, and my first pearl strand!

Already in progress, LOL! I have several more strands from Kongs arriving in the next week :) Here it is on yesterday! This is about the closest to the true colors as I can get with pictures.
