Trying to figure out my pearls’ colors

So it might help to know why you need the color? Saltwater pearls pick up so much of what is around them. You will see a huge difference on a black background, green or white or even skin. Some of that is the camera... A white surround (The best option) will still pick up blue tint or...

Can someone help me identify these 14k white gold clip on Pearl earrings?

Perfect! Some Akoyas are pretty smooth with only one way grit.. so keep that in mind...I rub back & forth to see if they have grit either way.

Lurker, got a huge tease and a disappointment 🙁

So I found out more...Apparently around the 90's there was a trend for some large companies to gift female employees pearls with company logos as a 5, 10 or 15 year gift. Some of the pearls are freshwater, some Majorica.

Please tell me these are Akoya 🫣

Here is the problem... They have been restrung... which could mean several of things: new pearls on an old clasp? or just restring in a more modern way. The other BIG issue is that the camera will make pearls look a little off round in your hand. Put them on a papertowel (It helps the camera)...

Can someone help me identify these 14k white gold clip on Pearl earrings?

I don't know the maker mark, I haven't seen that one. But I am guessing these are 60-80's... possibly Japanese closer to the 80's and American closer to the 60's. They look Akoya and there weren't many freshwater pearls available then (maybe Mississippi...but they aren't those). The "rice...

I know this is an older thread....but I echo JEG!!! See the actual pearls you are getting! I thought I just needed a replacement pearl of a typical grey freshwater teardrop shape...& ordered and inexpensive 1 on Etsy...WOW it was nothing like what I was expecting!!! It was so wrong!!! it...

    LaTausca?

I wonder what that would do to pearls??? I would be more concerned with soda being abrasive and eating the nacre?. I won't use Tarnex around pearls for fear it will eat nacre, but I have found that Wrights silver cleaner paste doesn't damage pearls, if you are careful, try to keep it away from...

    Pearl Clasp Identification.

This could very well be a company... jewelry stamps (Maker's marks) are often custom made for companies or artists... They buy the clasp & stamp with their mark. Google lens (the front of the clasp) or Justia for the maker's mark might tell you who made or sold it. There is not a quick way to...

Broken Mikimoto brooch..can it be fixed?

Anyone ever had a Japanese brooch catch fixed? It is missing it's inside toggle switch, that looks like 2 rabbit ears. I have several extra toggles (rabbit ears) but normally this is just a pressure fit...this one seems to have bars holding the sides together. Any hope?

Need help with pearls and maker please.

Izzie...Justia has maker's marks assoc. with patents...I just haven't found and easy way look with Justia. Langs & Worthpoint also have makers marks and are easier...but still a lot of looking. Google sometimes gets maker's marks right. Google lens does a terrible job on maker's marks...not...

Maker's mark. Vintage Akoya Japanese, but I don't know who

I am not sure of the numbers.... Pella is probably right... I have not seen the double fineness mark before. I was more interested in the M in an Oval.... or is that a mountain or a bird in an Oval? Fuji Pearl is sometimes stamped FP. Seiko has a stamp. Old Tasaki has a T in a shell. But...

    Mikimoto vintage assistance please

The clasp stamp (usually on the back) is really the only way to tell if the necklace stayed with the box, unless you have paperwork for the necklace.

Vintage brooch - possible Scottish river pearls?

Value is hard....because styles come & go. Brooches were really hot several years ago. Pearls are hot now...but not brooches. What may be worth $200 today or 2 years ago, might be worth $50 in 2 years. (Yes, this is crazy, but true. A family hutch went from $5000 down to $50 in 10 years)...

    Vintage pearls with vintage brooches/pins

I have 3 brooch to pendant converters.... (1 long, 2 short. The long one is really important for long brooches or the whole thing just wobbles.) but you need to use a chain. This still uses the brooch and the mechanism. I will try to pop in the back photos in a couple of days.

    Vintage pearls with vintage brooches/pins

The last one.. freshwater greys (could use a cleaning) and Akoya grapes. The Akoyas have lovely luster & colors! This one was easy with the old fishhook clasp. So ideas for easier on & off or hiding clasps?

    Vintage pearls with vintage brooches/pins

As I have been enjoying learning about pearls and ones that I like...I found that I love brooches as pendant/clasps. These aren't perfect...I need to figure out a little better catch system. Have you ever tried this and any thoughts or ideas to make this easier or better? Blue Akoyas with blue...
