I'm thinking of buying this strand, but am unsure if it's 100% genuine. What is that thing near the hole of the pearl? Is it an indication of my pearls being dyed?

These appear to be dyed freshwater pearls.

Dyed freshwater pearls. The color looks very unnatural. That thing near the hole shows these are not good quality. Pearls should not look like they are disintegrating before you buy them.

To my amateur eye, in addition to the disqualifying surfaces, the luster is lacking. You were smart to post here for opinions before purchase.
