Hi I just wanted to know if anyone know if these are pearls or shells? They were purchased in Hawaii over 30 yrs. ago. And does anyone know the makers mark and do they hold any value that I would need to insure them? Thank you for your expertise. I am grateful.

No need to insure! They are "rice krispie" pearls, freshwater pearls cultured in Cristaria plicata, the cockscomb mussel, in China.
I do not recognize the "L" mark but it is 14k gold.

Having had to make a number of insurance claims...because of moves...the only thing is to have a photo..replacement value is less than $200 and I only declare anything over $1000 separately.... Insurance uses eBay solds/listed as a replacement value...but gives you the bottom end... Pearls are up in value right now...but the value in yours is the clasp...which would be spendy to replace by itself because of current gold prices... but on a necklace on eBay...Not that hard (although it won't look the same.) Take photos of all your valuable jewelry (even just together) for insurance. But standard insurance is often around $10,000 for jewelry, plus you can get an extra rider if you have more. (It is usually in home owners or renters insurance...people should have 1 of those.)
