Hello, please could anyone help me identify these pearls, I recently bought them off a lovely lady advertised as south sea pearls with a bespoke 14k gold clasp, she told me they was a gift many years ago and cost around £800, I would like to send them off to get appreciated and was wondering what the experts and knowledgeable folk on here think , are they south sea, tahitian or freshwater ( I know you cannot be 100% sure, , but just some guesses ) thank you

Unfortunately these are not South Sea or Tahitian. They are dyed, Chinese freshwater pearls. I am 100% sure.
That's so sad, thank you , I will be contacting the lady who sold them to me as natural south sea pearls. Thanks again x

The Chinese freshwaters have gotten better and better. I can see why anyone would think those are Tahitians.
If you didn't pay Tahitian prices for them, they are still attractive and could be fun to wear, but they need restringing.

I reread your first post-- if you paid anywhere near that amount, that is too much to pay for freshwaters.
The thing is, round Tahitians with vibrant colors would have cost more than £800 many years ago. So her story isn't tracking in my opinion. And the clasp doesn't look bespoke-- there are many gold ball clasps. And gold used to be cheaper.

If they were sold as South Sea Pearls, that is a dead giveaway that something is not right because they are not that colour. Tahitians could have been but as the others say... The seller may or may not know herself.
I had the same experience where I was sold FWP as SSP and I believe the seller doesn’t know any better herself. I bought them out of curiosity and sad that my suspicions was correct as they were FWP not SS. The pearls are beautiful so I’m keeping them anyway. I didn’t pay SS price so not upset about it, just wished she knew better.
