Lake Biwa Pearls

Look at those babies shine! Beautiful! I'd wear all three everyday. Are the Biwas individually knotted? Thanks!

Thanks for showing us the pictures. Are they different lengths? Because they are dainty, the triple or double strands make them stand out more. I plan to wear mine with a small enhancer.

Hi Knotty -
They are all individually knotted, even those tiny ones.

Hi Cathy -
The tiny pearls are about 16-16.5" and the ones from TPO are 17.5".

The two longer ones would be fabuous with an enhancer.

I wanted to mention, too, that the shapes of all these are extremely consistent, including the tiny ones. They have great luster and some displays of orient too.

Ooh, yes, aren't they lovely ?
And I love all three together, too.

Silly me. The whole time I thought they were all gifts from when you were 16. I did not realize you are in Oregon and received yours from TPO. :)

I believe we have some Biwa somewhere in the safe at the office... I'm gonna have to remember to look for them..

Thanks for the compliments!!

Funny! I need to remember to ask the jeweler who did my sweet 16 strand whether they are Biwas - I know she sourced a lot of pearls from Lake Biwa in the '80s and they are strikingly similar to Terry's pearls.

Mine just came today! Thankfully a bit longer than advertised also! Mine appear very silvery--more than lavender or purple, but I am still extremely pleased. And yes, they are individually knotted.

You could of course wear a brown shirt and sport them yourself. Especially if you got the lavendar. Lavendar and brown just pops!
Tell her you wanted to match but in a manly way. I think you could get away with the biwa's.

Barbie,

I have been away from the list for a few days so I am just now seeing your note. I do not think I could get away with wearing them myself. Maybe if they were a little shorter but probably not. My family has a rather twisted sense of humour and I would probably never live it down. I can hear the jokes now. Trust me, I am better off trying to fabricate some sort of occasion to present them to my lovely bride rather than wear them myself. I could possibly get away with a single pearl on a leather cord but not a whole necklace of them. I have considered that in the past but not sure if I would really wear it on a consistent basis or not. Thanks for the thought though.

My 2 lavender Biwa strands arrived today and I've been having a little fun with the camera (read: pulling my hair out trying to photograph the orient!)

I also think they look silvery gray rather than lavender, almost a metallic aluminum color-- like nothing else I own. To tell the truth, I might not have bought them if they had been described as gray-- and that would have been a shame, because these are just great! I love their orient.

The 1st photo is one of the strands coiled, the 2nd shows them with a mabe pendant I have (Pteria penguin, I think it is) and the 3rd is my older white Biwas, for size comparison--I just can't seem to photograph their luster and orient! They are a little chubbier and smaller than the TPO strands. I've been thinking of restringing the small white ones with some pink and green tourmalines.

Pearl Dreams, that pendant looks AMAZING with your strands! I just got my strand today, too. Completely different than what I was expecting, but enchanting none the less. Now I'm going to have to find a pendant/enhancer for them!

Ok, Terry,

What is the scoop on the color of the Biwa pearls? Were there some strands more lavender? Did you over photoshop to get the color? Seems like some of us at least, agree that the photo was very different in tone than what we received, although we are over all very pleased with the pearls.

Pearl_Dreams,

Just amazing pendant with the strands! I have some enhancers I thought I would try also, since I usually go for a pretty big look!!

Pearl_Dreams--those strands are so lovely on you! I love the enhancer too!

Heidi & Pearldreams,
Thank you for posting the pictures. I don't have mine yet. I am not sure if silver is my color. I was planning on using a FW lavender drop pendant with the strand.

You ladies look beautiful in them. Pearldreams, are yours longer than 17.5" too?
