Assist please...Pearls?

Let me qualify the following with a caution: It isn't possible to positively identify a pearl from just a picture. With that in mind... they appear to be fairly high quality Akoya saltwater pearls. What size are they? I'm guessing they are around 7.5mm? The clasp is 14k gold, and they are well finished with gold wrap around the end knots. They appear to have a slight rose overtone and good luster.

It is impossible to know for sure the pearl type from just the picture though. We sell freshwater pearls that are nearly indistinguishable from Akoya pearls. I'd recommend trying to look down the drill hole and see if you can see a mother-of-pearl bead nucleus. If there is a bead nucleus, it is probably an Akoya.

Without any further information to go on, don't forget to tooth-test them to make sure they aren't faux pearls. I doubt they are since they are paired with a 14k gold clasp, but still...

Hi Terry! Thanks so much for your detailed and speedy reply. Much appreciated!! :)

Shinju-ga-suki....
Dakara, shinju ga suki desu ka? The pearls pictured are definitely Akoya, but it seems strange that someone named "shinju ga suki", or "one who loves pearls (in Japanese)" would ask what type of pearls those are...

LOL - I'm a skeptic by nature and especially so when it comes to pearls on ebay. shinju wa daisuki desu yo, demo soredakede shinju no koto wo zenbu shitteru tewa iyemasen. Best to refer to the experts. BTW, what did you think about those perfectly round indentations in picture number #2 on top, 3rd and and 4th pearls - those seem rather unnatural? :)

Whoops, sorry, didn't realize that there was only one picture posted here. I was referring to the pictures posted in jewelry forum on ebay.

I found the thread on eBay.

I noticed someone suggested they may be natural. They aren't.

The indentations appear to be normal defects.

Someone else said they are too white with no overtone. I disagree. The color and overtone are normal for Akoya pearls.

The real question is, do they pass the tooth test (feel gritty?) Take a set of faux pearls and compare with the tooth test. You'll immediately notice a huge difference.

Hello, Thanks you for all of your comments!
They do have the orange peel skin of naturals.
They look the same under magnification as my akoya,
but I can not see the inside. They are small holes
and fairly tight knots in the stringing.

Hi Lyra, They are not listed on eBay. They are mine. I posted them in the
eBay forum to find out what they pearl people there thought they were.
Thanks for your assistance.
